en Pediatrics Care Pediatrics Care پژوهشی اصيل Original Research <span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="line-height:normal"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times=""><b><span cambria="" style="font-family:">Aims: </span></b><span cambria="" style="font-family:">Childhood asthma </span><span cambria="" style="font-family:">is a common chronic disease associated with caregivers&rsquo;</span><span cambria="" style="font-family:"> psychological well-being and quality of life</span><span cambria="" style="font-family:">, particularly mothers who often serve as primary caregivers.</span><span cambria="" style="font-family:"> This</span> <span cambria="" style="font-family:">study aimed to examine parenting stress, quality of life, and their relationship among mothers of children with asthma in Iraq.</span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="line-height:normal"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times=""><b><span cambria="" style="font-family:">Methods: </span></b><span cambria="" style="font-family:">This cross-sectional study included 250 mothers of children aged 5&ndash;15 years with physician-diagnosed asthma who attended two teaching hospitals in Baquba, Iraq, between February and October 2024. Data were collected using a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire, the Parental Stress Scale, and the Pediatric Asthma Caregiver&rsquo;s Quality of Life Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson&rsquo;s correlation, and multiple linear regression.</span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="line-height:normal"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times=""><b><span cambria="" style="font-family:">Findings: </span></b><span cambria="" style="font-family:">The mean</span><span cambria="" style="font-family:">&plusmn;SD </span><span cambria="" style="font-family:">parenting stress score was 52.16&plusmn;5.71, and the mean</span><span cambria="" style="font-family:">&plusmn;SD</span><span cambria="" style="font-family:"> quality-of-life score was 4.61&plusmn;1.10. Parenting stress was significantly and negatively correlated with overall quality of life (r=&minus;0.346, P<0.001), emotional function (r=&minus;0.311, P<0.001), and activity limitation (r=&minus;0.366, P<0.001). In multivariable analyses, marital status, paternal educational level, and birth order were significant predictors of maternal quality of life, whereas marital status was the only significant predictor of parenting stress.</span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="line-height:normal"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times=""><b><span cambria="" style="font-family:">Conclusion: </span></b><span cambria="" style="font-family:">Higher parenting stress was associated with poorer quality of life among mothers of children with asthma. Family-related factors, particularly marital status and paternal educational level, may influence maternal psychosocial well-being.
